From Akron, Ohio, LT Carl Henry Bruggemeier was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bruggemeier.
He attended Norwich with the class of '51.

He entered the service in August '49, and won his pilot wings after graduating from the Naval Air
Training School in Pensacola, Florida.

He was stationed at a Marine air base south of Seoul and flew combat raids for five months. He
died on February 3, 1953, on his last mission before a scheduled rest in Japan. He had also been
due for a change of assignment in 4-6 weeks.

In another sad footnote to his death, his fiance, Joan, received his engagement ring two days after
the casualty telegram.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Donald R. Bucher, 90, of Peru, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Miami County on June 25, 1922, the son of Elmer and Laura Daubenspeck Bucher. Don married Anita Darby on Oct. 28, 1944 and she survives.
Don was a 1941 graduate of Clay Township Highs School, a member of the Loree Brethren Church and retired from Haynes International in 1982 after more than 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran and his military decorations include the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation of Japan Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Surviving in addition to his wife Anita, is a son, Fred Bucher and his wife Nadine of Peru, grandchildren, Angela Hays, Abra Masuth, Allison Roop, Melissa Bucher, Heather Fowler, Todd Bucher, Sherry Jackson, Patricia Wright and Reba Jackson, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Kay McKee, John Rickard and Lee Stuber. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joe Bucher; a sister, Mary Richard, and four brothers, Glen, Earl, John and Weldon Bucher.
A service celebrating the life of Donald R. Bucher will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2012 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru with Pastor Bill Bussard officiating. Burial will be in Rankin Cemetery with Military Graveside Services provided by members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Loree Brethren Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay McKee, Kokomo; a son, John Rickard and wife Peggy, Alta Loma, Calif; two grandchildren, Laura J. McKee and Tara Kay Burns; a great-grandchild, Justin Mattingly; and a brother, Donald Bucher, Peru.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and four brothers.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill, with Pastor Gerald Zook officiating.

Burial will be in Rankin Cemetery, Miami County.

Private First Class Bucher was a member of Company C, 62nd Engineer Construction Battalion, U.S. Army. On December 16, 1953, he was on a work detail near Yangsu-ri, South Korea, when a mortar shell accidentally exploded. He died enroute to the 121st Evacuation Hospital. Private First Class Bucher was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.2
