Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Donald R. Bucher, 90, of Peru, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Miami County on June 25, 1922, the son of Elmer and Laura Daubenspeck Bucher. Don married Anita Darby on Oct. 28, 1944 and she survives.
Don was a 1941 graduate of Clay Township Highs School, a member of the Loree Brethren Church and retired from Haynes International in 1982 after more than 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran and his military decorations include the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation of Japan Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Surviving in addition to his wife Anita, is a son, Fred Bucher and his wife Nadine of Peru, grandchildren, Angela Hays, Abra Masuth, Allison Roop, Melissa Bucher, Heather Fowler, Todd Bucher, Sherry Jackson, Patricia Wright and Reba Jackson, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Kay McKee, John Rickard and Lee Stuber. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joe Bucher; a sister, Mary Richard, and four brothers, Glen, Earl, John and Weldon Bucher.
A service celebrating the life of Donald R. Bucher will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2012 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru with Pastor Bill Bussard officiating. Burial will be in Rankin Cemetery with Military Graveside Services provided by members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Loree Brethren Church.
