Ira L. Herriff, furniture dealer, Kent, was born in Rootstown, November 19, 1846, son of Samuel and Llydia (Hartlerhode) Herriff. His paternal grandfather was John Herriff, a native of Pennsylvania and among the early settlers of Rootstown. His maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Hartlerhode, who with seven children--Lawrence, John, Samuel, Christian, Kate, Mary and Ludia--settled in Rootstown in an early day. She afterward married Samuel Hartle, of Rootstown. Samuel Herriff, the father of our subject, is a farmer and resident of Rootstown. His children were six in number: Ira L., Ezra, Everett, Cecelia (deceased), Emma (deceased) and John (deceased). the subject of this sketch was reared on his father's farm and educated in the common schools, when twenty-one years of age he located in Kent and embarked in the manufacture of brick, in which he was engaged

Kent, was born in Rootstown township, this county, December 19, 1818, son of John and Susan Herriff, natives of Pennsylvania, who came to Ohio about 1805, and here died. Our subject was married June 5, 1844, to Lydia Hartleroad, born in Pennsylvania, February 17, 1820, daughter of Laurance and Elizabeth Hartleroad, natives of Pennsylvania, who immigrated to Ohio, remaining in this county until their death. Mr. and Mrs. Herriff are the parents of six children, three of whom are now living: Ira L., Ezra, and Everet. The deceased are Emma, John E. and Celia E. wife of Ed. Achison, who was instantly killed by lighting. Our subject, has been a farmer all his life, Owns sixty acres of improved land and with the family has lived on his present farm forty-four years. they are among the early pioneers of the county.¹

     Jesse Kline married Dessie Reitzel, age 19, daughter of William H. Reitzel and Sarah Emma Staley, on Wednesday, December 30, 1903 .¹ Jesse Kline died in 1904.²

     Caroline Klink was born on June 12, 1846 at Germany.¹ She married Michael Mochel, son of Michael Mochel and Magdalena Heimlich, in 1865 at Ohio .² Caroline Klink died on April 29, 1913 at Illinois at age 66.¹

     Jenettie M. Knotts was born in October, 1877 at Indiana.¹ She married, at age 23, Wilbert F. Cox, age 21, son of William H. Cox and Sophia E. Long, on Wednesday, May 8, 1901 at Pulaski County, Indiana, .^1,2 Jenettie M. Knotts died after 1930.¹

     Elmma E. Gertrude Kolb was born on May 13, 1888 at Ohio.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Kolb and Emelia C. Miller. Elmma E. Gertrude Kolb married Walter Edward Ludwig in 1908 at Ohio . Elmma E. Gertrude Kolb died on December 26, 1958 at Ohio at age 70.¹ She was buried after December 26, 1958 at Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.¹

     Frances E. Kolb was born in 1919. She was the daughter of Louis Joseph Kolb and Agnes St. Clair. Frances E. Kolb died on May 13, 1962 at Guernsey County, Ohio.
