William Smith was born on January 22, 1668/69 at Weighton, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of William Smith and Jane Wilberfoss. William Smith immigrated in 1681/82 to America. He married, at age 21, Agness Mary Croasdale, age 21, daughter of Thomas Croasdale and Agnes Hathornthwaite, on Wednesday, September 20, 1690 at Wrightstown, Pennsylvania, . William SMITH was born 22 1st month 1669 at Wighton, Hull Parish, Yorkshire, England. He is said to be the William
Smith who arrived in 1682 on the ship Friends Adventure and resided with Phineas Pemberton, also from Yorkshire.
This has not been positively proven.
William SMITH is also stated to have been the second settler in Wrightstown Twp., Bucks Co., PA having arrived
soon after John Chapman. William purchased 100 acres as a part of the orignal 500 acre Wrightstown tract. He also
took up a patent for 150 acres adjoining the original purchase extending his lands from the park to the Newtown line
and partly into Neshaminy.
His will was made 13 10th month 1740 and proved 20 Apr 1743 in Bucks Co. John Penquite and Joseph Chapman were
named executors. His will divided his land among his sons, several of which sold their shares and in 1768 moved to VA
and SC.
William married first to Mary CROASDALE 20 9th month 1690 at the home of John Chapman of Wrightstown, PA.
She was born 1669 in Yorkshire, the daughter of Thomas Croasdale and Agnes Hathornthwaite. She died 1716 and
William married next about 1720 to a woman named Mercy.1
