Phillip Daubenspeck was born in 1757 at Heidleberg Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Johan Jacob Daubenspeck and Juliana.1 Phillip Daubenspeck began military service between 1778 and 1783 at Northampton County, Pennsylvania, as a Ranger with Roups Battallion. He married Barbara Smelser, daughter of Peter Smelser and Barbara Garnhart, on December 18, 1792 at Bourbon County, Kentucky, two other possible dates being November 12 and November 27, 1792.2 Phillip Daubenspeck married Hannah Kenney on Friday, January 13, 1815 at Harrison County, Kentucky, . Phillip Daubenspeck died on June 14, 1820 at Harrison County, Kentucky, Possibly murdered by his wife.

There is no record of him signing the Oath of Allegiance during the American Revolution but records show that he did fight in the Revolutionary War and the Indian Wars.
Philip Daubenspeck had his Revolutionary war service primarily with Roups Battalion. He served as a ranger from 1778 to 1783. He served according to the PA Archives in 1782 as a substitute for different people that lived in Northampton Cty. On page 497, it says he subsitituted for Nicholas Bachman from April 18, 1782 - May 27, 1782, for a total of 61 days. Page 501 states that he substituted from Michell Wertman from July 27, 1787 -September 23, 1787. Page 597 says he substituted from Nicholas Baeman on November 12, 1781.
