2 Jackson W. Daubenspeck , was one of the oldest men in Hamilton County died in this city Saturday night, at the age of ninety five. He was in fairly good health until a few days ago, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis, after which he failed rapidly. The body was taken to Carmel , Sunday, in the O.W. Nutt ambulance and the funeral occurred on Monday, the interment being in the Farley cemetery.
Mr Daubenspeck was the grandfather of George Daubenspeck, a well known contractor of Carmel, with whom the deceased lived at intervals for a good many years. He is also survived by one son and one daughter. He has been staying in this locality for the past six years. He was a member of a large family and it is said all of them lived to be older than he. He was a Mason, born in Indiana and lived in the southwestern part of Hamilton county for nearly seventy years.

Between the years 1735 and 1740 there came hither to Northampton county, Palatines who strengthened the Colony. the Lutherans provided themselves with a piece of land for Church and school purposes, adjoining the Reformed lands on the South. the organization of the congregation (including these two groups) took place in 1740. the place of assembling was at Jacob Daubenspeck's home, about one mile southwest of the church lands. There in his home Divine Services were held for a period of five years and then steps were taken to build the first church which was erected in the year 1744. It was a log building. The second church was built in 1756 and dedicated in 1757. the names of the heads of families who built the first and second churches, included Henrich Geiger and Jacob Daubenspeck.

The Lutheran and Reformed congregations met together in Jacob Daubenspeck's home. In March 1745, they made a contract that the church be and remain a Union church. It was called the "Heidelberg Church". Each had separate hours for worship and different ministers. the first church was dedicated by the Rev. Jacob Frederick Schertheim and Reverend Philip Jacob Michael. In 1757 the contract was renewed.

Barbara Smelser. John Daubenspeck began military service on August 31, 1813 at Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky, in Captain Thomas Ravenscraft's Company of Colonel Mountjoy's 4th Kentucky Volunteer Regiment. The unit participated at the Battle of the Thames in which Chief Tecumseh was killed.
