     Joseph M. Cox married Katherine Phillips .^2,3 Joseph M. Cox was born on March 4, 1839 at Indiana.¹ He was the son of Jonathan Cox and Prudence Mickle.¹ Joseph M. Cox died in 1922.

     George Trotter was born on December 14, 1839 at Sangamon County, Illinois. He was the son of James K. Trotter and Mary Ann Daubenspeck. George Trotter served in the military on July 25, 1862 as a Private in Company "I" of the 114th Illinois Infantry Regiment

Mustered out Company "I", 114th Illinois Infantry Regiment on 03 August 1865 in Vicksburg, Mississippi

     David Ramsey was born circa 1840 at Indiana. He was the son of Samuel Ramsey and Elizabeth Hahn. David Ramsey served in the military on November 27, 1861 as a private in Company B, 40th Infantry Regiment Indiana. He died on October 20, 1865 of disease while serving in the Union Army.

This regiment was organized at Lafayette and was mustered in
Dec. 30, 1861. It left the state at once going into camp at
Bardstown, Ky. In February it moved to Bowling Green and
Nashville with Buell's army, going thence to Alabama.

At the time of Bragg's invasion of Kentucky, the 40th was
stationed in southern Tennessee. When Buell moved into
Kentucky the regiment marched to Nashville and proceeded with
the army to Kentucky in pursuit of Bragg. It returned to
Nashville, was assigned to the 6th division, 14th army corps,
was engaged at Stone's River, losing 9 killed, 63 wounded and
13 missing, and at Murfreesboro was assigned to the 2nd
brigade, 1st division, 21st corps on the reorganization of the
army.

It was engaged in the battle of Chickamauga also in the
battles of Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, and passed
the winter in eastern Tennessee. It reenlisted as a veteran
organization in Jan. 1864, at Blain's cross-roads, Tenn., and
visited Indiana on furlough.

It was stationed at Cleveland, Tenn. when the Atlanta campaign
opened, then joined the 2nd brigade, 2nd division, 4th corps
and accompanied the army through that campaign participating
in all the movements, battles and skirmishes. It was
conspicuously engaged at Dallas, Kennesaw Mountain,
Chattahoochee River and Peachtree Creek.

After the capture of Atlanta it was ordered to Chattanooga and
remained there until November, when it moved for Nashville and
took part in the battle at that point in December. It then
joined in the pursuit of Hood as far as Huntsville, Ala.,
passed the winter at Nashville, moved to Johnsonville in June,
1865, and took transports for New Orleans, where it joined the
4th corps and proceeded to Texas, being stationed at Port
Lavaca.

It was mustered out Dec. 25, 1865. Its original strength was
928; gain by recruits, 581; reenlistments, 246; total, 1,755.
Loss by death, 312; desertion, 131; unaccounted for, 29.

     Alma Hahn was born circa 1840 at Ohio. She was the daughter of Isaac Hahn.

     Phoebe Heacox was born circa 1840 at Pennsylvania. Thereafter her married name was Robinson. She married Joseph W. Robinson, age 19, son of James Robinson and Eliza Sutcliff, on Thursday, November 15, 1860 at Clay County, Indiana, . Phoebe Heacox died before 1900.

     Emily Jane Eller was born in 1840. She married John Willis Hahn, age 31, son of Benjamin Hahn and Anna Elizabeth Cooper, on Saturday, November 15, 1873 at Peoria, Miami County, Indiana, . Emily Jane Eller died on April 30, 1890.

     Martha Gates was born in 1840 at Indiana. She was the daughter of John Gates and Eliza Endsley.

     Lydia Hartleroad was born in 1840 at Portage County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Lawrence Hartleroad and Susannah Maud Woonshower. Lydia Hartleroad married Jonathon Briggar on Thursday, February 13, 1862 .

     John F. C. Robinson was born in January, 1840 at Indiana. He was the son of James Robinson and Eliza Sutcliff. John F. C. Robinson married, at age 21, Elizabeth McCann, age 16 on Thursday, April 25, 1861 at Clay County, Indiana, . John F. C. Robinson lived in 1870 at Neosho Rapids, Lyon County, Kansas. He died between 1900 and 1910.

     Catharine Trotter was born on January 8, 1840 at Sangamon County, Illinois. She was the daughter of James K. Trotter and Mary Ann Daubenspeck.

     Jesse P. York was born on February 14, 1840 at Henry County, Indiana. He was the son of John P. York and Laura Parham. Jesse P. York married, at age 26, Mary A. Hendricks on Wednesday, January 16, 1867 at Miami County, Indiana, . Jesse P. York married, at age 26, Mary A. Hendricks on Friday, January 18, 1867 .¹ Jesse P. York died on February 19, 1878 at Peru, Miami County, Indiana, at age 38.

     Valentine Long was born on February 27, 1840 at Indiana. He was the son of Henry Long and Sarah Ann Phillips. Valentine Long served in the military between August 27, 1861 and December 2, 1865 as a private in Co. "C" of the 29th Indiana Infantry Regiment (See additional notes for this regiment under his brother, Silas Long).¹ He died on February 11, 1892 at Gillam, Jasper County, Indiana, at age 51.

     Madelaine Mochel was born on April 17, 1840 at Sessenheim, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France. She was the daughter of Friderich Mochel and Marie Eve Heimlich. Madelaine Mochel married, at age 20, George Wild on Thursday, October 4, 1860 at Marion County, Ohio, . Madelaine Mochel died on September 23, 1876 at Marion County, Ohio, at age 36. She was buried on September 25, 1876 at Richland Township, Marion County, Ohio.

     Frederick Sutcliffe Thomas was born on May 8, 1840 at Waterloo Township, Fayette County, Indiana. He was the son of William Henry Thomas and Mariah E. Sutcliff. Frederick Sutcliffe Thomas died on June 21, 1924 at Monroe County, Iowa, at age 84.

     David Hahn was born in June, 1840 at Ohio. He was the son of Henry Hahn and Matilda Troxel. David Hahn died on July 29, 1916 at Miami County, Indiana, at age 76.¹ He was buried circa July 30, 1916 at Peoria Cemetery - Butler Township, Miami County, Indiana.

David is listed in the 1880 Census with a checkmark in the column "Maimed, crippled, bedridden or otherwise disabled." He was described as


being a cripple by his father Henry (Civil War Pension file affadavits) in 2009.²

     William Endsley was born on June 26, 1840 at Indiana. He was the son of John Endsley and Rachel Butler. William Endsley served in the military on October 22, 1862 as a Private in Co. "C" of the 54th Indiana Infantry. He was severely wounded, receiving gunshot wounds (GSW) to the right foot and leg at Chickasaw Bayou, MS on December 29th, 1863. He was hospitalized aboard a hospital steamer (not named) and then transferred to No. 1 U.S. Army General Hospital at Paducah, Kentucky . While recovering from GSWs, he contracted chronic diarrhea and phthisis pulmonalis. He was medically discharged on May 29th, 1863.¹ He married, at age 23, Sarah Jane Dugan, daughter of John Dugan and Mary Delilah Huff, on Thursday, February 4, 1864 at Grant County, Indiana, . William Endsley died on February 18, 1907 at Grant County, Indiana, at age 66 of Diabetes Millitis.²


This regiment was organized at Indianapolis in the fall of 1861 and was mustered in Dec. 14. It moved at once to Bardstown, Ky., and with Buell's army in Feb., 1862, towards Nashville, reaching the Tennessee River too late to participate in the battle of Shiloh....

     Magdalena Mochel was born circa August 1, 1840 at Buffalo, Erie County, New York, see note, below.¹ She was the daughter of Michael Mochel and Magdalena Heimlich. Thereafter her married name was Boblenz. Magdalena Mochel married first Adolphus Christoph Boblenz, son of Johann Christian Boblenz and Christiene Wilhelmine Schribe, on March 3, 1859 at Richland Township, Cardington, Marion County, Ohio. Thereafter her married name was Kuehner. Magdalena Mochel married second Joseph C. Kuehner, son of Lucas Kuehner and Elizabeth Summer, on April 15, 1875 at Richland Township, Cardington, Marion County, Ohio. Magdalena Mochel died on April 24, 1904 at Richland Township, Marion County, Ohio, of cancer. She was buried at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery - Richland Township, Marion County, Ohio.

I am now pretty well convinced that Magdalena Mochel was born in Buffalo, New York. A rather large amount of evidence seems to support this, mainly from numerous citations in various federal censuses, both from her and from her children.

     James E. Ramsey was born on December 26, 1840 at Indiana. He was the son of Samuel Ramsey and Elizabeth Hahn. James E. Ramsey served in the military on April 7, 1864 as a private in company "B" of the 40th Indiana Infantry Regiment. Mustered out December 21, 1865 (see note under his brother, David Ramsey).¹ He married, at age 25, Lucinda Adams, age 20 on Thursday, August 30, 1866 at Miami County, Indiana, . James E. Ramsey died on January 15, 1903 at Miami County, Indiana, at age 62.

     Mary York was born in 1841 at Indiana. She was the daughter of Aaron York and Mary Leakey.

     Michael Mochel married Caroline Klink . Michael Mochel was born in 1841 at Ohio. He was the son of Michael Mochel and Magdalena Heimlich.

     Martha Jane Waisner was born on February 7, 1841 at Franklin Township, Washington County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Solomon Waisner and Mary Sally Elvira Bowman. Martha Jane Waisner died on April 15, 1896 at Franklin Township, Washington County, Indiana, at age 55.

     Emma V. (?) was born on April 2, 1841. She married Jeremiah L. Ramsey, son of Samuel Ramsey and Elizabeth Hahn, circa 1861 . Thereafter her married name was Ramsey. Emma V. (?) died on July 27, 1903 at Miami County, Indiana, at age 62. She was buried after July 27, 1903 at Santa Fe Cemetery, Miami County, Indiana.

     Catherine Hahn was born in May, 1841 at Indiana.¹ She was the daughter of Henry Hahn and Matilda Troxel. Catherine Hahn married, at age 21, Isaac H. Robinson on Saturday, February 7, 1863 at Miami County, Indiana, . Catherine Hahn died after 1930.

     Joseph W. Robinson was born in June, 1841 at Indiana. He was the son of James Robinson and Eliza Sutcliff. Joseph W. Robinson married, at age 19, Phoebe Heacox on Thursday, November 15, 1860 at Clay County, Indiana, . Joseph W. Robinson lived in 1870 at Neosho Rapids, Lyon County, Kansas. In 1900 Joseph W. Robinson worked as a stock raiser at Kansas.

     Friderich Mochel was buried at Berringer Cemetery - Richland Townshp, Marion County, Ohio. He was born on September 17, 1841 at Sessenheim, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France. He was the son of Friderich Mochel and Marie Eve Heimlich. Friderich Mochel married, at age 23, Gottleibe Lehner, age 22 on Thursday, November 10, 1864 at Marion County, Ohio, . Friderich Mochel died on April 17, 1920 at Marion County, Ohio, at age 78.

     Nancy Jane Riley was born circa 1842. She married John Hartleroad, son of Lawrence Hartleroad and Susannah Maud Woonshower, in 1863 .

     Almira E. Moffett was born circa 1842 at Indiana. She married Alonzo M. Rush, age 31, son of Greenberry Rush and Elizabeth Daubenspeck, on Friday, November 3, 1865 at Rush County, Indiana, .

     Denia Thayer was born circa 1842 at Shelby County, Indiana. She married William Merritt Thrasher, age 29, son of Woodson Walker Thrasher and Barbara Daubenspeck, on Tuesday, December 30, 1862 at Shelby County, Indiana, . Thereafter her married name was Thrasher.

     Rebecca Lou Walker was born circa 1842 at Iowa. Thereafter her married name was Thrasher. She married John P. Thrasher, age 23, son of Woodson Walker Thrasher and Barbara Daubenspeck, on Thursday, September 11, 1862 at Cincinnati, Ohio, . Rebecca Lou Walker died after 1930.
